Update on Funding for the Housing Authority of the City of Austin’s Rental Assistance programs

On February 1, 2019, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) published guidance on funding availability for the Housing Choice Voucher program. This is an update on the funding status of that program and other rental assistance programs administered by the Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA).
According to HUD’S letter, current funding levels will allow for timely housing assistance payment disbursements for March and April 2019. HACA can assure that payment disbursements will be uninterrupted through April 2019.
HUD indicated that the federal government is operating under a continuing resolution (CR) until February 15, 2019. Funding beyond April 2019 will require Congress to either extend the continuing resolution or to pass a 2019 budget.
HACA understands the concerns caused by the current government funding uncertainty and are hoping for a swift resolution.
