Award-winning multi-family housing developer LDG Development and the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) have unveiled an innovative scholarship and professional education initiative to serve low-income students and young professionals in the affordable housing industry.
LDG will contribute $1 million, over a 10-year period, to establish a new NAHRO/LDG Scholars initiative and to fund the NAHRO Merit College Scholarship, which provides grants to college students who live in HUD-assisted affordable housing, including HACA residents.
"I lived in public housing when I was young, and I would not be where I am today without many helping hands," said NAHRO President Carl S. Richie, Jr., who is a practicing attorney as well as the HACA Board Chair. "With these scholarships and the NAHRO/LDG Scholars initiative, we extend our own helping hands to children and young adults nationwide."
NAHRO is a national organization of affordable housing and community development professionals and industry partners, whose members provide housing to more than 7.9 million low-income people.
"Stable housing serves as a platform for other personal achievements," said NAHRO CEO Adrianne Todman. "We are thrilled that LDG will join with NAHRO to help students and young professionals achieve their dreams."
Both initiatives will be administered by NAHRO. The NAHRO/LDG Scholars program will begin accepting applications in Summer 2019.
